The ethereal has been captivating and attracting my energies and output since the early 1980's. There is so much more out there than meets the eye. I revel in those opportunities to poetically fashion a peep-hole for viewing another dimensional aspect of the spirit or its relatedness to space and heavenly bodies. What is the difference between your physical body and the planet Jupiter? Jupiter is certainly the larger heavenly body. Both bodies are alive to live their own life-span. Both were created by some natural phenomenon. Both have atoms with neutrons and protons; electricity. There is an essence that permeates all that is and it is tremendously rewarding to feel a molecular and spiritual kinship with the ALL. Creating is a most responsible endeavor. It teaches a chain of order and an acceptance of intermingling forces that aid in the creative process. The results are feelings of connectedness and elation. It is fun and entertaining when I sometimes stumble haphazardly upon a form I had been trying so hard and thoughtfully to create. There is no dictate for the revelation or undulation of approaching creative inspiration. I sometimes burst into laughter and marvel at how the universe presents a form to the psyche while one is diligently struggling to uncover how-to-secrets. This is the way of life. This is the way of art and this is the way of creating and of painting. It is joyous to paint a subject who’s forms have not been made visible. Finding that combination of paint and spirit to depict and render an ethereal concept produces elation and thankfulness within me. I am blessed. Sidney Cothran |
